Software development
Software built around how your business actually works
Requirements, architecture, development, integration, migration and support for systems no off-the-shelf product covers.
Short answer
Custom software development builds an application specifically for one organisation processes rather than adapting a general-purpose product. It covers requirements analysis, architecture, development, integration, testing, data migration, deployment and ongoing support.
What we do
Most custom software projects start the same way: a process that matters runs on a spreadsheet nobody dares to touch, or on a system built years ago by someone who left. The work is not glamorous - it is understanding the process properly, modelling the data correctly, and building something the team will actually use.
How we work
Discovery first, with the people who do the job daily. Then a data model and architecture you can review. Then two-week iterations with something working at the end of each one. Integration and migration are planned early because they are where projects slip.
What you get
Working software, the source code, documentation, tests, deployment instructions and a team trained to use it. Support afterwards is an agreement, not an assumption.
What's included
What custom software development covers
Requirements and discovery
Workshops with the people who do the work, not only the people who commission the project.
System and database design
Data model, integration points and architecture documented before code is written.
Application development
Iterative delivery on a staging environment you can review at any point.
Integration
Connections to accounting, ERP, payment, SMS, government or partner systems through documented APIs.
Data migration
Extraction, cleaning, reconciliation and verified loading from the system being replaced.
Support and enhancement
A named contact, an agreed response time and a change process after go-live.
Business outcomes
What changes for the business
Software shaped to your process
Off-the-shelf products force process changes to fit the tool. Custom software works the other way round.
You own the source code
Full repository ownership and documentation on handover. No licence dependency on us.
Built to be handed over
Typed, tested, reviewed and documented so another team can pick it up without archaeology.

How we work
How an engagement runs
- 01
Discovery
Current process mapped, pain points identified, success criteria agreed in writing.
- 02
Design
Data model, architecture and interface flows, reviewed before build starts.
- 03
Build
Two-week iterations with a working demonstration at the end of each.
- 04
Test
Automated tests plus structured user acceptance testing against the agreed criteria.
- 05
Deploy
Data migration, training, phased rollout and a rollback plan.
- 06
Support
Hypercare, then an ongoing support arrangement sized to the system.
Frequently asked questions
Custom software development - questions and answers
Custom software development is the design and construction of an application built specifically for one organisation processes, rather than buying a general-purpose product. It covers requirements analysis, architecture and database design, development, integration with existing systems, testing, data migration, deployment and ongoing support.
Custom development makes sense when your process is a genuine competitive advantage, when no product fits without heavy modification, when licence costs scale badly with your user count, or when you need deep integration between systems that do not talk to each other. If a standard product covers 80 percent of the need, buying it is usually the better decision, and we will say so.
Discovery is quoted as a fixed piece of work. After discovery, a defined first phase can be fixed price because scope is understood. Longer programmes usually run on time and materials with a capped monthly budget, because pretending to fix the price of unclear scope produces either padding or arguments.
You do. The repository, documentation and deployment configuration transfer to you. We do not retain licensing rights over software you paid to have built.
